Just curious if you can improve on a Didge. I know with guitar, you can change pickups and do certain modifications to improve the sound. What about the didge? If I took my generic, eucalyptus/termite hollowed didge, is there anything I could to improve it. Could sanding down, so that the walls were thinner, give it a more traditional sound, or improved sound? Does painting it effect the sound? What are some good paints to use? What are some other ideas, if any, to modify and improve on a didge?

Depends.

If it is an authentic/traditional Aboriginal instrument, then I wouldn't modify it at all. Would you try to fix the smile on the Mona Lisa?

Non-aboriginal instruments should not be painted with any colors or patterns that could be mistaken for, are similar to, Aboriginal designs. I don't think painting affects the sound at all.

Non-aboriginal and "tourist" didges can be improved -- or ruined --- as you see fit. If the internal diameter is less than 3 cm, then you try chiseling it out a bit.

Without seeing a photo of your instrument, it's difficult to offer suggestions.
