Hello all,

I am so pleased to see this community alive and well. I am new to the forum, so here are two recordings to introduce myself. I apologize for the less than studio quality, these recordings were done on a built in mic on a home computer.

Onward,

Eliot

Hey Eliot,

Welcome to the forum (weren't you a member before or just on the ididj one?).

Nice clips. I can really hear Jeremy Cloake's influence in the second one.

Kyle,

Interesting that you hear Jeremy's influences.... I have never really listened to him much. The piece was based on listening to Yolngu up north this past summer.

How are things with you? I listened to a few of your recent playing clips; sounding good man!

Hey Eliot,

I reckon the similarities aren't that strange seeing as both you and Jeremy are contemporary Balanda who have, like me, been heavily influenced by Yolngu playing styles. Your own style mixed with Yolngu technique results in a very JC-like style, which is by no means a negative thing.

Truth be told I've not been playing a lot recently with a 2 year old running around and another one due any day now! My daughter Skye loves the didj those and tells me to 'play didj' and then tells me which stick to play so I do manage to get a few licks and riffs in now and then.

I look forward to reading and listening to your further contributions to this forum.

Kyle

Kyle,

Do you have or can you point me towards any of Jeremy's recordings that a more NEAL style bent? I would be really interested in hearing his take.

A two year old huh? I bet that is keeping you busy and happy. Congrats!

I'll post from time to time, certainly. It should be fun!

Best,

Eliot

Hey Eliot,

You're probably familiar with Jeremy's Balanda Yidaki Dhukarr tuition CD which has Yolngu inspired rhythms on it.

http://resonance.co.nz/music.html

There were some freestyle examples on Jeremy's site when he was promoting his European workshops, but I think that page has been removed since then. I see that Jeremy is now a member of this forum - why not contact him directly to get some samples etc.

Kyle,

I didn't know he had a yidaki instruction cd out. Cool!

I'll send him a mail sometime; seems like an inspiring guy.

Welcome again, Eliot !

BTW, I clicked on the website link in your signature and landed on a blank white page. I checked out the html source and noticed that you didn't close the center tag before the link to the "coming soon" image, meaning it doesn't show - on my browser anyhow.

John,

Thank you for the notice. The image that I have up is rather large; its takes a while to load. I will fix that soon enough.

Thank you for the welcome as well. I look forward to some great discussions on this forum.

Hi Eliot

It's not the size of the image, it's the html tag that's wrong. The code is now

<center<img src="Comingsoonpage2.jpg"></img></center>

but should be

<center><img src="Comingsoonpage2.jpg"></img></center>

- the closing bracket of the center tag is missing

I think maybe you forgot to upload the adjusted file to the server.

The source still shows as:

<html>
<head>
<title>West Texas Native</title>
</head>
<body>
<center<img src="Comingsoonpage2.jpg"></img></center>
</body>
</html>
