August 27-28 2016 in San Diego, Ca. USA area:

Aboriginal Awakening of the Senses
With Lewis Burns
A spiritual cultural emersion in Aboriginal Australia through the Mind & Body

1. Smoking Ceremony using Eucalyptus Leaves. (Approx. 30 Minutes) This is an age old Ceremony performed by very specific members of a tribal group.
A Smoking Ceremony is done in many different situations such as:
Welcome to Tribal Country, Cleansing before other ceremonies, Corroboree (Gathering for Cultural Performance or presentation) and many more.
In this Ceremony you will be a part of the cleansing of the participants and the area around us, we will be welcoming our Ancestors to be with us in spirit and warding of bad and negative spirits.
Lewis has been entitled to and conducting Smoking Ceremonies for over 10 years in many different situations.

2. Ochre Application. (Approx. 45 Minutes) Ochre is very sacred to Aboriginal people, it has been traded and given as high profile Cultural gifts for thousands of generations.
Ochre is from the land, our “Mother Earth”, when you apply ochre to your body you are figuratively wrapping the mother’s arms around you in spirit. In this activity some body designs will be applied and described as we are applying the ochre.

3. Didgeridoo Massage (Approx. 20 Minutes with groups of 10) Didjeridoo has been used as a healing instrument for generations. The sound waves that come out of the didjeridoo while playing stimulate the body internally. If someone had an injury such as a sprain etc, the didjeridoo would be played over the affected area and the sound waves of the didjeridoo would help the body in its healing process.
Participants will be asked to lay on mats or towels while the didjeridoo is played over the body. This is limited to a maximum of 10 per 20 minute session so each participant can hear the the didje for 20 minutes while laying still but will also enjoy 2 minutes of direct didje vibration.

4. Chants & Rhythms. (Approx. 30 Minutes) Chanting is an important part our songs during our ceremonies. It helps to keep people in time with each other during the song, it gives people who are not a part of the ceremony a way to be a part of it and it makes the whole ceremonial atmosphere more invigorating.
In this activity you will learn some different chants and use them to participate in a song or two.

5. Johnny Cakes & Quondong Jam (Conserve) (Approx. 60 Minutes) Johnny Cakes are also known as damper, or fried scones.
Since the late 1800’s Aboriginal people were placed in Missions or on Reserves and given rations to survive.
Flour was one of the rations as was salt, and fat or dripping.
Traditionally, we used local seeds to make flour for bread (we call wigay). Many Aboriginal people today use modern resources as a result of a few generations living on the rations.
We will be making Johnny Cakes and spreading them with Quondong Jam (conserve). Quondongs are a delicacy for aboriginal people. Emu’s also like to eat the quondongs, it is said that the seed of a Quondong will only grow if it has passed through the emu.
