Hi Guys

I was thinking of treating a new dij I have with danish oil as I have been busking and noticed that it has a hairline crack near the bell ? is this due to long playing time. or is this due to the heat wave we have now in the uk.

I have played it quiet a lot indoors also but only noticed this crack today. I think it's just on the outside but I don't think the inside as been sealed with anything.

this will be my busking dij from now on so i want it to last as long as possible :)

Have you had the instrument out in the sun as well? If so, could be. If not, cracks are less likely in hot weather (in Europe anyway) as the heat means the air is more humid.

Cracks do usually start on the outside as the inside swells with the moisture and the outside can't keep up.

I would say a busking didge needs all the protection it can get, inside and out. Danish oil is pretty good on the outside, but I have no experience of using it inside.

I have used danish oil (Rustin's) on instruments in the past but I don't like the effekt. To much rubbery build up and it doesn't smell too good either.
