Steve, I look in every few days & have done for the last year or so.
I have made quite a few post but, don't expect much in the way of replies unless you have a specific question!
I would love to see this forum liven up as much as you.
Facebook has taken it toll on many forums worldwide, whether it is a guitar forum or a fishkeeping forum.
It might be impossible to get this one back to where is was but it does seem quite orientated towards traditional instruments whereas I am more into more contemporary instruments!

Fox, Im using the last info you provided on a didge I am hopefully starting tonight. another pine, best would readily available to me to cut down, and work with hand gouges.
Ill post some pics , if I can figure out how to downsize them.
take care
Steve

Pine is OK & easy to work with but not so easy to get a good finish.
I made one once but hardwood gives a much better end result in my mind.
Are there no interesting trees around your way?
How about a cactus one .... they can be very easy to build or a little more adventurous if you like...

Id love to get hold of a yucca or agave stalk. Theres none where I live, {coastal flat land}. Theres yucca in West Texas,, but many hours away.
we have a terrible influx of Chinese tallow, make great walking sticks,, but not much else. Pecan is fairly plentiful , but that stuff is hard. Im keeping my eyes open though , never know what youll find.
take care & I like the agave didge.
Steve

Pecan sounds great!
I love a tree called Hornbeam, it is quite common where I live and is about as hard as they come, hornbeam was traditionally used for wagon wheels & gear cogs in wind mills.
