Some good news :)

Lirrwi Tourism is Open for Business and Stronger than Ever
Lirrwi Tourism is pleased to announce its return to Yolngu hands after a successful financial restructure that helps to ensure a positive future for tourism in Arnhem Land communities.
After a period of special administration supported by the Office of the Registrar of Indigenous Corporations (ORIC), Lirrwi has been handed back to its Indigenous stakeholders among the Yolngu communities of Australia’s far north. Lirrwi remains open for business and is stronger than ever.
As part of its restructure, Lirrwi Tourism has established a new board with a diverse background that provides ideal support for its future development. The board now comprises representatives from Yolngu homelands, industry leaders and local expertise, ensuring Lirrwi Tourism remains in Yolngu hands while drawing on the best available experience from business and tourism (details of the new board are below).
Thanks to the hard work of Lirrwi’s supporters, the organisation is now in a sound financial position. It has introduced new financial management practices to ensure it remains profitable and improved internal practices to safeguard the viability of its tours.
Lirrwi has also appointed a new CEO, Aaron Shorthouse, who brings extensive experience in a variety of areas including environmental science and research, logistics, aviation, tour operations and natural resource management. Having begun work in May, he will play a vital role in managing Lirrwi’s operations and supporting Yolngu communities in their tourism aspirations.
Lirrwi’s 2016 season of tours began as scheduled in May and a busy program of corporate visits and school camps is underway. We look forward to welcoming further visitors to Yolngu homelands throughout the current season and into the future.
Lirrwi would like to thank its financial supporters, stakeholders and partners for their generous commitment and shared belief in tourism within Yolngu communities, especially Air North, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Event Hospitality and Entertainment, Laynhapuy Homelands Aboriginal Corporation, M.H. Carnegie & Co, Rirratjingu Aboriginal Corporation, the Northern Territory Government, Telstra, Indigenous Business Australia, Qantas Airways and the local community.
Our vision for a sustainable tourism economy in Arnhem Land is unchanged and we remain dedicated to developing new employment opportunities for Yolngu communities while at the same time sharing and strengthening our culture for future generations.

The Board
Djawa (Timmy) Burarrwanga - Chairman
Barayuwa Mununggurr - representing Bukudal Homeland
Bill Wright – tourism industry leader and chairman of ID Events Australia
Denise Fincham - experienced local business women
Marcus Lacey - representing Nyinyikay Homeland
Peter Harm - specialist consultant to Indigenous businesses with a focus on banking and finance.

Do you know that there's a Barayuwa senior? Not the Buku-Larrnggay employee, but an older man who's been in many leadership roles around Yirrkala and Nhulunbuy over the years. Plus, he's a lovely guy!

I'm hearing stories of food shortages in Gove grocery stores. Is the Gove airport still open? How is tourism going to handle all of this?
